This approach significantly reduces project time scales as quick hand calculations ensure our early concepts are adequate of delivering or handling load cases that a product is required to deliver or withstand.

Use FEA to optimise designs to reduce costs and check design suitability

Once we move from 2D layouts to 3D design we are able to take advantage of HD’s FEA facilities to constantly monitor and maintain a design’s integrity. Once a 3D design is complete we are able to thoroughly review it through various load scenarios to confirm factors of safety and if relevant minimise prototyping. This approach has been extremely successful for our clients and has delivered designs exceeding client’s expectations on a number of occasions.

Further time is saved as 2D detail drawings can be produced very efficiently, safe in the knowledge that the core design is correct and fit for it’s intended purpose.

Haughton Design were tasked with optimising the design of a fabricated impellor to significantly reduce part count and fabrication times. Finite Element Analysis was conducted on an existing design to determine stress distribution, the design was then developed and optimised to improve performance. The exercise lead to a near 50% reduction in fabrication time and part count too allowing our client to increase competitiveness in a very challenging market
